Talk Title:  Dissecting Genotype-environment Interactions and Trait Correlations

Bio:

Thomas Mitchell-Olds received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, and spent one year as an NIH postdoc in human genetics. He is a former Director of the Max-Planck Institute of Chemical Ecology in Jena, Germany.  At Duke University he is the Newman Ivey White Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biology.  His research focuses on complex trait variation in plant populations. Research in the Mitchell-Olds lab includes evolutionary genetics in Boechera, an ecological model system closely related to Arabidopsis. In addition, collaborations with colleagues at the International Rice Research Institute and the Africa Rice Center examine drought tolerance, resistance to Africa Rice Gall Midge, methods for analysis of multi-environment trials, and systems genomics approaches to Genome Wide Association Studies.
